What makes a module dissapear from the CONTENT MANAGEMENT zone? Now while I am testing out the different levels of membership and what they have permission to see & do in the CONTENT MANAGEMENT zone I have noticed that the CATALOGUES module does not appear in the frame of modules. What makes it disappear from view. Is there a particular switch that turns off the access/visibility of a module? Prehistorics Illustrated

I was using 2 members to test the usergroup LOCAL. Each member had exactly the same point level. I was following Chris's instructions and had success with usergroups below the LOCAL level but with the LOCAL level it was getting the best of me. This was driving me crazy because I was doing the exact same thing, over and over. The same thing which had given me success with the other groups was not working with the LOCAL group. Why? I was getting 2 different results with the 2 users I thought were identical. Later I found that there was a difference between the two, it was, and they did not become LOCAL's at the same time. While I used the oldest member, I could not get the restricted icons to disappear but later when I started to use the 2nd member I saw that the icons I wanted to disappear - actually did disappear! One thing to mention here is that the permissions granted or restricted were actually enforced by ocPortals permission system - but I had wanted the icons also to disappear when the permission withheld. So, I am concluding from this that if permissions are changed, existing members in a usergroup are affected by the permission granted or withheld a member of that usergroup as ocPortal is designed to do (the rules are enforced)…but if you withdraw a permission under the same conditions mentioned, the icon in CONTROL MANAGEMENT will not also disappear as you would expect it to. But If a member moves up into that usergroup after the permission change has been made then both the restricted permission enforcement will occur along with the disappearance of the CONTENT MANAGEMENT icon. Anyone else experienced this? Prehistorics Illustrated

I think it could be a couple of things…
ocPortal doesn't store when people came into a usergroup or what usergroups they were previously in. If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |
